Complex Carbohydrates
It has been shown lately that there is a lot missing in most of the diets these days that restrict carbohydrates. Weight loss and an overall healthy body demand much more than simply cutting out carbs. Of course, when you restrict your carbs to such a degree you will end up losing a few quick pounds, but you will also gain those pounds back just as quickly when you start to bring them back into your diet. There must be a better way, right? Yes, and that better way is paying a lot more attention to complex carbohydrates when you do eat them.
The benefits of complex carbohydrates
Most experts agree that as a nation, we would be better off eating a diet with low carbohydrates, but that those that we do eat should be complex carbohydrates. There are two types of carbs, complex carbohydrates and simple carbohydrates. The simple ones are full of empty calories and only add to the levels of stored fat in the body. Complex carbohydrates, on the other hand, are chock full of vitamins and minerals as well as fiber. Fiber is essential to the proper functioning and health of the digestive system and a lack of fiber in the diet contributes to diseases such as prostate cancer.
Complex carbohydrates, also called good carbohydrates, can be found in whole grains and some fruits and vegetables. In general and put very simply, those foods that are closest to how Mother Nature intended them to be are the best for you and full of essential vitamins and minerals that your body needs to be at its best.
Contrary to a popular belief these days, carbs are something that your body needs and can only be so severely restricted in a person that does not exercise. We should not try so hard to satisfy those that are not willing to get themselves into a good exercise regime. We should be doing our best to encourage all dieters to combine this with exercise. Take advantage of your carbs, including your complex carbohydrates.
