Low Carb Foods

Low carb foods are best prepared at home, don't fall prey to the marketing of pre-prepared and packaged low carb foods.

Are You Curious About Low Carb Foods?

We have seen in the last few years the market practically flooded with all kinds of products in the grocery stores labeled as low carb foods. Not, just that, but they sold, they flew off the shelves. There were so many people completely wrapped up in all of the low carb hype that they were more than willing to shell out the extra dough needed to pay for many of these low carb foods. But, we had the proverbial wool pulled over our eyes and were taken for a ride for the benefit of huge food manufacturers.

Making (and having) low carb foods at home

Too often we are looking for the easy way out and the simplest solution and many companies make a killing off responding to this mentality of wanting something not now, but yesterday. Delayed gratification has taken a backseat to quick fixes. Such is the case with many of the low carb foods we see in the supermarket and advertised online. A low carb diet can be beneficial if done the proper way, but there is no one who has need of most of the pre-packaged and pre-prepared low carb foods.

The most obvious downside to many low carb foods is their taste. The majority of them cannot pass any taste test and one really has to wonder how they could have possibly made their way into the market in the first place. Taking an old favorite that was full of carbs and then redesigning it to have less carbs is much more difficult than the companies must have thought because the "new" product is usually a major disappointment. A better idea is to simply do away with the many of the high-carb items that you used to love and find good tasting alternatives, or reserve some of your favorites only for certain times.

Another problem is the definition (or lack thereof) of low carb foods. What makes a low carb food actually low carb? And who determines that? The FDA is the authority on defining the terms we see on food labels, but they have yet to do that for "low carb" labels, making the low carb market a real free-for-all.
