Where Can You Find Low Carb Food? What Will It Do For You?
When you're on a low carb food diet, your choices (especially during the first two weeks) are pretty much limited to meats, cheese, eggs, low carb shakes and low carb bars. Okay, so meat, cheese and eggs can make for some pretty tasty dishes (omelettes, quiches, etc.) but eventually, you will get bored with these foods. Unless you are a creative chef or have some creative recipes, you might be tempted to try some of the many low carb foods that are out there. Before you do, read this!
Is low carb food worth all the extra cost?
When low carb food products became all the rage in the United States of America, lots of food manufacturers felt the pinch of people cutting back on bread, pasta, etc. To survive in the low carb food marketplace, many of these manufacturers started making a little adjustment here and there. Like low carb versions of their foods. Even Atkins and South Beach are selling different foods!
The problem is that the carb count in most so-called items of this nature really isn't much lower than the full carb versions. In addition, it's usually more expensive! Keep all of this in mind as you choose your favorite low carb foods.
If you're not on a low carb diet, you might be attracted to foods labeled as low carb food because you assume that they must be okay on a diet. Dieter beware! Read the labels before you buy. Think about it. The additives in low carb food that compensate for the loss of flavor usually add calories. Now, some of these additives are fiber and artificial sweeteners. These really aren't bad for you. But sometimes these foods have added fat which can be bad.
